The pad housing with the worn out pad that ruined the disk, and the set of new pads. The brakes make a grinding noise when the pads get as worn down as this one is. You can see the metal backing of the old pad. The pad's metal against the disk's metal causes the damage, and the noise you hear when the brake pads start to ware out. If you stop driving the vehicle when it starts making the noise, you won't have to replace the disk.
